The CHS Theater Department is preparing for the annual GHSA One-Act Competition, and this year they will be performing The Crucible by Arthur Miller.

I had the opportunity to interview cast and crew members after 8 weeks of rehearsal on their thoughts on the process:

Rae Slaughter (11), who is a third year One-Act participant and who plays Tituba, stated, “The rehearsal process has been a very unique and interesting experience. I am becoming closer with the people I am working with, and it's just amazing to see how everyone's doing this dramatic piece.”

“The rehearsal process for sound is finding audio files to put into the show and then playing them through the speakers.” stated Lucy Hart (11), who is a Crew-head for Sound Crew.

“The rehearsal process has been really great, things have been going really smoothly! We’ve been on a really good pace coming up to the shows, we have a bunch of time to fine-tune things. I think we are going to perform a good show!” said Miley Le, who plays Rebecca Nurse (12).

Maria Gayle (12) who is a part of Ensemble, says, “The rehearsal process has been pretty fun! This is my first time doing One-Act on the cast and I feel like we have been making good progress. I am excited to perform in front of a larger crowd than usual and other theater students at the competition!”

The cast and crew will be graded in different categories such as Individual Characterizations, Movement, Listening and Response, and Rhythm with judges placing each school in 5 different categories: Poor, Satisfactory, Good, Excellent, and Superior.

This year’s cast and crew have high hopes and expectations to follow in the footsteps of previous years, being known to take home state titles each year.

The CHS Theatre Department invites you to view The Crucible on October 22nd, 23rd, and 25th at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium. You can purchase tickets online and at the door for $10.

“I am looking forward to winning, to performing, and everyone being beautiful,” reflected Slaughter.
