CHS Cross Country: City Championship and Senior Night

On October 16th, 2023, at Kinnett Stadium, the CHS Girls Varsity Cross Country team earned the title of City Champions, and the Boys Varsity Cross Country team obtained second place. At the end of the City Championship, CHS Cross Country recognized their senior athletes.


For the Girls Varsity race, seven runners participated.


The names and placements of the Girl Varsity athletes are as follows: Alyna Gilbert (11)--1st, Layla Albright (12)--2nd, Haley Heard (11)--3rd, Mya Thomas (12)--5th, Sara Takagi (12)--6th, Emily Dale (9)--11th, and Lawrencia Duah (9)--12th.


By placing first, the Girls Varsity Cross Country team defeated Northside, Jordan, Spencer, Shaw, and Rainey McCullers High School.

The CHS Girls Varsity Cross Country team poses with their 1st place trophy. Runners who placed top five in the Varsity or JV race were awarded medals.


The Boy Varsity runners and placements for the City Championship are as follows: Matthew Lopez (10)--1st, Dean Walker (9)--8th, Julius Martin (9)--11th, Hasan Molvi (11)--13th, Matthew Petallar (11)--15th, Hayden Palmer (11)--16th, and Troy Tull (11)--17th.


The Boys Varsity Cross Country team triumphed over Jordan, Kendrick, Rainey McCullers, Spencer, and Shaw High School.

The CHS Boys Varsity Cross Country team proudly display their second place trophy.


To conclude the City Championship, CHS celebrated their senior cross-country players. The Superintendent of Education, Dr. David F. Lewis, personally handed each senior athlete a flower, and their names were announced over the loudspeaker.

On October 25th, the CHS Cross Country team will attend the Regional Competition.
