Columbus High School Varsity Soccer prepares for another deep playoff run in the 2023 season.
The Lady Blue Devils soccer team has been working hard to earn a spot in the playoffs, with recent wins against Thomasville, Starr's Mill, and Crisp County.
On Friday, March 24th, CHS students gathered in support of CHS Varsity soccer at Odis Spencer Stadium. The girl's soccer team mercy-ruled Thomasville High 10-0.
"The support of the parents and students has been amazing this year, and we appreciate when people come to our games to cheer us on," said Lillian Robinson (11).
This season's results didn't come easy though, the team practices Monday-Friday from 4:15 to 6:00 pm.
"I have really seen us grow from the beginning of the season to now," stated Coach Lovin, "the players are putting into action the things we have worked on in practice, and it is making a difference in the way we have been playing, especially in recent games."
The boy's team currently has a record of 14-1 with their one loss against the #1 soccer team in the state, McIntosh High School.
"Overall this season our team has improved a lot," states Jace Cecalupo (12), "Every game we become stronger and faster, building off each play. Our chemistry is unbreakable, and our on and off-the-ball movement is solid. We have a very strong team, and I can't wait to see what we can do in playoffs."
Columbus High Men's Soccer is being recognized at the national level and currently ranks #23.
"The team has been working hard all season in order to be well-prepared for playoffs, remarks Coach Torres, "and we’ve faced a tough schedule in order to test us. So far the team has shown that they are ready for anything they might have to face in playoffs."
As playoffs approach, the team plans to revisit the highs and lows of the season, building off the highs and attempting to repair the lows.
"I feel very optimistic and excited to play against any team we come across in playoffs," expressed Cecalupo (12), "and I have no doubt in my mind that we have a strong enough team to win the state title. Our team is prepared mentally and physically for the upcoming playoffs."
Varsity Soccer has its next game against Monroe on March 29th at Odis Spencer Stadium. The girl's team plays at 5:30, and the boys start at 7:30 pm.
