This past weekend on February 15th, Columbus High’s Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team placed third in the West Regional HRRB tournament.
Team members Ariana Keller (10), Bricedy Vega-Perez (12), Eliseo Carreto-Tornes (10), Jackie Nguyen (12), Jivesh Nayyar (10), Melanie Chan (10), Sathvika Gangadi (10), and team statistician Steven Mejia-Santiago (11) traveled to Carrollton, GA to represent the Muscogee County School District in the high school competition.

The team competed against three other high school teams across the West Georgia Region.
Sponsor, Dr. Scott, also brought along five volunteers to the tournament. Jaila Prier (12), Jamiee Smartee (10), Kalaya Benton (11), Mariah Brown (12), and Michelle Escandon (12) were staffed as moderator, console judge, scorekeepers, and timekeeper for the elementary-level competition.

Columbus was amongst four schools in the Muscogee County School District to place in the tournament, a record for the competition.
This award comes after the Columbus High HRRB team won the district HRRB competition on January 30, 2025. This was Columbus High’s third first place win at district since the first high school level HRRB competition was held in 2023.
