FIRST Tech Challenge Starts Back Up

By: Silvana Garcia Chang

At Columbus High School, we’ve always prided ourselves on the diverse assortment of clubs and extracurriculars we provide for students to participate in. Of the more popular and larger organizations CHS has helped cultivate and grow into itself is the robotics team: Columbus Space Program (CSP).

With a heavy emphasis on fostering a greater interest in STEM, CSP runs both the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) teams. FTC, here at CHS, partially acts as a precursor to the FRC season that takes place in the second half of the school year.

The FTC season, on the other hand, has already begun! Our two FTC teams, Astrobots 165585 and Ecliptic 22327, have been formed for this school year and are already hard at work brainstorming, designing, and manufacturing the robot for this season’s challenge.

“Our two teams, Ecliptic and Astrobots, are working really hard to design a robot for this year’s game! Both teams are well on their way to being ready for their first competition!” says Sam Black (11, FTC Co-Captain)

The FTC Kickoff took place on September 7, 2024, and their first competition will take place on October 26, 2024. Be sure to keep up with Astrobots and Ecliptic throughout their season, and FRC when their season starts in January, 2025.
