Football Spotlight: New Head Coach, Coach Peters

By: Elissa Mickey

Coach Robert Peters has been a part of Columbus High’s football program for fourteen years, initially starting as the defensive line coach, then becoming the offensive coordinator, and eventually working his way up to his current position. Coach Peters was appointed head coach after the departure of Coach Marino, and has led our Blue Devils every since then.

When asked about the jump to head coach, Coach Peters said, “ [it] has been very busy,” as he is still CHS’s offensive coordinator but now also has to take on the duties of a head coach. However, Coach Peters also says it has been rewarding to “interact with them [the players] in a different role” and that he is proud “to work with a group of young men everyday that are really good football players.”

Coach Peters has done much this season, including installing a new offense and says he believes “the team is developing nicely.” He has had noticeable impacts on the team, such as the fact that the total amount of yards achieved this season has already surpassed the total amount of yards from last season, clearly showing offensive improvement.

While there has already been visible improvement for our Columbus High football team, Coach Peters still has goals for the future of this team, such as “looking to produce confident young men” and “players that can go out and be successful not only on the football field, but also in life,” and he intends to fulfill these goals during his tenure as head coach.
