Girls Golf defeats Northside and Harris County

On Wednesday, March 29, the Girls Golf team won their match against Northside and Harris County High School. Lower scores are ideal for golf, and at this competition the members of the golf team earned some of their lowest scores all season long.

The girl’s golf season previously began February 7th, and their first tournament was February 22nd against Northside. The team won this match, and they also earned first place in the Lady Granger Tournament that took place March 14th.

The golf team is divided into Varsity and Junior Varsity for competitions. In tournaments, the top four Varsity golfers are chosen to participate. Usually, the team will have one to two alternate players from Junior Varsity prepared in case there is a need for substitutions.

There are a total of eight golfers on the team. The members include Ansley Bufford (11), Lily Davis (10), Sophie Earwood (10), Alexa Fontanez (10), Riley Wolf-Rach (10), Anjali Garlapaty (9), Reagan Henderson (9), and Trisha Shah (9).

Because there is a small number of people on the team, the players are consequently closely-knitted.

“We’re like sisters, and we are working hard to make it to state,” Ansley Bufford (11) explained.

The state qualifier match for the Girls Golf team is April 26th. The competition will be hosted at the local Bull Creek Golf Course. The top three teams from the Bull Creek tournament will proceed to the State competition.

Before the state qualifier match, the Girls Golf team will participate in the Battle of the Borders competition on April 11th and the Northside Invitational tournament during April 12th and 13th.

Throughout the path to state, the Girls Golf team continues to practice vigorously for low scores and successful matches.

“The friendly competition between the girls has encouraged healthy growth,” Coach Mccabe expressed.

Mccabe is the first female coach for the CHS Girls golf team, and she has faith that the Girls Golf team will work hard to display their best performance during this valuable season.
