On Wednesday, April 20, the CHS Girls Tennis team won the first round of State. The competition took place at the Columbus Country Club against Howard High School, and the final score was 5-0.
In total, the Girls Tennis team has four more rounds of competitions before the final State Championship.
The next round will be the “Sweet 16” competition. It will take place April 26th in Athens, Georgia versus North Oconee High School.
Previously, on April 12th, the Girls Tennis team earned second place in the Regional Championship at Cooper Creek. During the Regional competition, seven tennis players participated, and the team won two matches.
The CHS Girls Tennis team also currently holds second place for the Girl’s Tennis team rankings in Georgia, and Lagrange High School is first place.
If the team can continue to place well in the State rounds, then the Girls Tennis team will earn a chance for the State Championship title.
“We have had a really good season this year,” Coach Hill expressed.
The Girls Tennis team consists of ten players including Madison Hanson (12), Pranati Yadlapalli (12), Bebe Norman (12), Sofia Eckstein (11), Vrinda Hooda (11), Anna Jung (10), Carson Masse (10), Kate Greer (9), Haley Heard (9), and Rachael Tillery (9).
Last year, the team made it to the “Elite Eight” competition, which is the fourth round of State. This year, there are high hopes to surpass the “Elite Eight” and compete in State.
