Homecoming Week Reflections

Updated: Oct 23

By: Lucile Choudhury

This past Friday was a night full of excitement and pride for Columbus High, as we crowned our 2024 Homecoming Queen: Jaelyn Bell!

Jaelyn is a dedicated member of a plethora of clubs here at CHS including Girls in Engineering Math and Science, Beta Club, and co-captain of the cheer team. She enjoys giving back to her community and is a passionate member of many clubs and organizations. Jaelyn’s win was met with fantastic applause from all members of the crowd.

The CHS football team secured a decisive victory in their game against Kendrick High School, defeating them 31-0 in arguably one of the most attended games in the season. The team’s impressive performance set an exciting stage for homecoming celebrations.

Reflecting on her experience on the homecoming court, Jaelyn shared that her favorite memory was making unforgettable bonds with the eleven other girls on the court.

“They made my experience so much fun, and I would not change a thing!” Jaelyn joyfully affirms.

She reminisces about this past weekend and says without a doubt that it was one of the best times she has had. She soaked up all of the events of the weekend, hoping not to miss a single memory as her senior year concludes. Jaelyn also shares words of wisdom by emphasizing the importance of cherishing every single moment.

Fellow court member Maggie Ivey revealed her emotional connection to the event. She recalls that her favorite memory was when all of the girls came together to sing the alma mater after Jaelyn was announced queen.

“I was so emotional because I was so happy for Jaelyn, but it was also bittersweet; I was laughing and crying at the same time,” Maggie expresses.

Taking away from the homecoming court event, Maggie emphasizes how quickly time flies and the fast-paced nature of school. The court made her realize how far she had come because she felt like a freshman just starting high school and reality kicked in that she was a senior.

Maggie also states that Jaelyn has been one of her closest friends for years and confirms that there is no one more deserving of queen.

“She has the purest, sweetest soul and never fails to make me laugh,” she states.

As we celebrate Jaelyn’s achievement and the football team’s victory, we would like to reflect on this moment that showcased the talents of our student body and the strong sense of community within CHS. We look forward to continuing to support each other and create more unforgettable memories in the future!
