As a sophomore who is balancing being in ten clubs at one of the most competitive schools in my state, having meetings practically every day of the week for the entire school year can be challenging. You know that song “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” by Jeff Buckley? The lyric “It’s never over” plays in my head at least a few times each week – and honestly, it fits my schedule perfectly.
My friend Cortavian Hatcher(10) asked, “Sanaa, what is your favorite club?” I would probably say student council! It is one of the most important ones but also very fun! To become a member I had to campaign, and I absolutely love that process! It is a chance to introduce myself to my classmates who may not know me yet, make an impact, and hopefully bring some positivity to their day.
My friend Amber Ray(10) asks me, “What are all of the clubs that you are in?” I respond, Student Council, Speech & Debate, Blue Streak, Recycling Club, Chick- Fil-A Leader Academy… Wait, what else again? Sometimes it is honestly hard for me to remember off of the top of my head!
Overall, the most difficult part of everything is when unexpected plans come up. Sometimes I have to make the choice of attending a club meeting or doing something else important. It is a part of the sacrifices that I have to make with being so involved. Even when meetings are rescheduled some days just don’t work out in my favor– but I have to prioritize and choose the most important one.
Still, I am grateful for every club opportunity that I have at CHS. Each one has helped me grow in leadership and time management – two skills I know will be essential for my future career.
