The Columbus High cross country team has had some changes this year, such as new runners, along with a division change. The team has dropped from 3A to 2A, but this division drop does not mean that their ambitions have dropped.
Relating to this change girl’s team member Emily Dale (10) states, “it’s not that big of a problem,” but also says, “with private schools out, we definitely have a better chance at competing.”
The Columbus High cross country team had a great season last year, with the girls coming home with a second place trophy from state, while the boys came home with a twelfth place finish last year. However, great is not good enough for these student-athletes, as they want to have an exceptional season, and aim to place even higher this year.
Boy’s team member Hasan Molvi (12) says that their ambitions this season are, “to place at state; that would be pretty cool.”
Alyna Gilbert (12), a runner for the girl’s team comments, “[we want to] win state; to take it all home.”
The runners, both girls and boys, as well as the coaches have worked hard to reach their high goals for this season and will continue to strive for greatness.
