The Importance of Being Earnest Comes to CHS

Updated: Oct 22

The Columbus High School Theatre Department is preparing for their annual One-Act Competition.

The cast and crew of The Importance of Being Earnest, the One-Act show for the 2024-25 school year,  have been working diligently. They are all very excited to not only perform for the public, but to also compete in the competition.

“This is one of my favorite scripts, like ever. And it's been really cool to get to watch people put their own spin on characters that I already really like.” states Ms. Stephens, the director and Theatre teacher here at CHS.

"I am mostly excited to go to the competition this year because of redemption. We’re on our villain arch” says Allison Wharton (12)

The CHS Theatre Department had a streak of winning first place for five consecutive years, until it was lost last school year when they placed second.

Gale Parker (10) states “ I am definitely excited and super ready to go to the competition because not only is going to the competition really fun, and you make a lot of memories, but we have to get revenge; we have to redeem ourselves.”

Cast and crew members of the show describe the experience and the process of being a part of One-Act as unique.

“When you are doing theatre you get to know people on a level that you don’t get to know most people otherwise. There is a certain level of intimacy that goes into creating a story live, onstage, every

night” stated Parker.

Patch Hern (12) states “Because one act is a competition, and we kind of got that flame under us, the people you get close with during one act, you get closer than anyone else you've ever met in your life.”

“I have never worked on a show from this time period, so it's been really interesting to watch the actors kind of evoke that feeling that we’re going for,” says Sophia Rother (12).

“This is my first show here as an actor. I’ve done shows in the past but nothing quite like one-act. The time crunch is what is so interesting to me” remarked Matt Franklin (12).

Ben Tante (9) says “Everyone comes in here every single day and uses each other's dynamics to put a whole show together. It is truly a unique experience.”

Come see the CHS Theatre Department present on October 24th, 25th, and 26th at 7pm in the Auditorium. Tickets are now available on GoFan.
