At CHS, students aren’t just learning in classrooms, they’re taking initiative and learning to lead. For the past two years, the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy club has helped students make an impact in their community.

Students are involved by doing such things as leading fundraisers for children who are hospitalized. A way that they are able to do this is by doing their “Do Good December” Project. Their fundraising team collaborates with each other to come up with ideas for fundraisers. In addition, the communications team makes school announcements and spreads the word. Lastly, the logistics team ensures that dates work for everyone and is able to go to hospitals.

“Being a part of Chick-Fil-A Academy for two years now has helped me grow as a leader and work better with others around me,” says Sanaa King (10), a club member.

“I like having a club that collaborates with us through partnerships with nearby locations, such as the toy drive held last December with the Manchester Expressway and Macon Road locations,” says member Kirsten Rickman (11).

Last year, they successfully surpassed their goal and collected over 300 toys and were able to deliver them to Bill & Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital and also donated cleaning supplies and food to Savage Hart Wild Animal Rescue. Additionally, they collaborated with nearby Chick-Fil-A locations.

Some students who were heavily involved in this club had the opportunity to attend the 21st Century Leaders Summit, hosted at Columbus Tech.

Students who find interest in leadership and community service are encouraged to join and make a difference.
