On Friday, February 2nd, Columbus High School’s varsity basketball team celebrated Senior Night with two victories over Thomasville High School. The girls varsity team opened the evening with a winning score of 36-35, followed by the boys varsity team with a score of 55-44.

For Senior night, senior basketball players, cheerleaders, and managers were recognized.
The senior girl basketball players are as follows: Lechel Dye, Alexus Hammond, Sanna Hicks, Janey Mims, Kartier Ollervidez, and Kayin Walker.
The senior boy basketball players: Karson Baldwin, Jackson Biggs, Noah Coleman, Robert Hartford, Tae Hood, Oakley Koontz, Enoch Oluwaniyi, Alex Van Pelt, and De’andre Wooten.
The senior basketball cheerleaders are Rya Bell, Shamira Elam, and Ne’Kayla Owens.
Kayla Marshall and Jada Gibson were recognized as basketball team managers.
In honor of Nicholas Averett, the boys varsity basketball team presented a personal gift to the Averett family. Soon after, a moment of silence was observed for the former student athlete.
Above: Each senior was escorted to the center of the gym by their loved ones. Flowers, gifts, and pictures were exchanged.
Notably, the basketball cheerleaders performed a dance routine during half-time at the boys varsity game.
“I’m so proud of the team’s half-time dance, we did really well” basketball cheerleader Tristian Patterson (11) smiled.
The next home game for the basketball team will be February 10th against Monroe at 6:00PM.
