On Tuesday, January 23, at the Columbus Aquatic Center, the Columbus High Swim Team concluded its season with the All Valley Championship Meet. Overall, the girls placed second, and the boys placed first. At the meet, the senior athletes were also recognized.
Columbus High competed in 24 events against Northside, Rainey McCullers, Brookstone, Pacelli, Troup County, Hardaway, Harris County, Kendrick, and Shaw High School in the meet. Overall, the team placed in over half of those events. Among those, they placed first in the girls’ 400 relay, boys' 200 medley relay, and all dives.
Twelve seniors on the team were recognized at the beginning of the meet. The seniors on the team are Alex Balauitan, Ashlyn Bennett, David Bunt, Diego Maldonado, Ian Harkness, Jac Cummings, Martin Kostov, Rishi Yarlagadda, Sarah Cartwright, Sophia Atkins, Tylar Werner, and Robert (Deuce) Malone.
As she reflects on her final year on the team, Ashlyn Bennett says, “The team chemistry was unmatched, and I love the diverse skill level across the team!”
On February 7th, eight swimmers on the team will attend the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Championships: Jac Cummings, Diego Maldonado, David Bunt, Lawrence Witzke, Sophia Atkins, Remmi Stewart, Ainsley Anderson, and Tanusha Raviprakash.
