CHS Tennis Causes a "Racquet" at Jekyll Island

On February 25th and 26th, the Columbus High Varsity Tennis teams competed at the Jekyll Jam at Jekyll Island.

The girls and boys teams both played exceptionally well, pulling out some close matches and beating tough competitors.

The teams have never been able to pull off a win like this at the same time for Jekyll Jam.

In the past 11 years, the girls have won the tournament 5 times and were runners-up twice.

The Jekyll Jam is a big tournament for the girl's tennis team because it sets the tone for the rest of the season.

“The girls know they can beat good teams,” remarks Coach Hill, “ and that confidence goes a long way in helping them believe in themselves and their abilities.”

The tennis team practices an hour and a half every day and builds the schedule so the team has tough competition, allowing the team to improve throughout the season.

Tennis players, Vrinda Hooda, Carsyn Masse, Bebe Norman, and Pranati Yadlapalli all stood out on the court at the Jekyll Jam.

Masse, Norman, and Yadlapalli played in all 3 matches and went undefeated in doubles.

" Once we pulled through with the win, I felt relieved and lightheaded," stated Norman.

Hooda played in all 3 matches and was undefeated against very good opponents.

“Knowing that we can count on Vrinda and the doubles lines to win takes a lot of the pressure off the other courts which in turn makes them play better,” stated Coach Hill.

The boys and girls both have upcoming tournaments: the Granger Invitational on March 11th and 12th, hosted by LaGrange High School.
