Columbus baseball improved to 8-6 on the season after taking both games of a doubleheader against Hardaway on Wednesday evening.

Strong pitching performances from Andrew Wells and Pearson Mackenzie secured the sweep for the Blue Devils. The two juniors gave up a combined four hits on the day.

The bats were also clicking for Columbus, as they put up 10 runs in each game and combined for 23 total hits.

Andrew Wells shut down the Hawks offense in the first game. In 5.0 Innings Pitched, the junior held Hardaway to no runs on 2 Hits and 2 Walks. He also recorded a season-high 9 Strikeouts.

The Blue Devils were up 2-0 going into the Bottom of the 5th, then a 3-run double by Pearson Mackenzie sparked a 5-run rally that added some insurance to their lead. An error in the bottom of the 6th allowed Will Nobles to score, securing the 10-0 victory.

Columbus pitching continued to dominate Hardaway in the second game. Pearson Mackenzie shoved on the mound for the Devils, throwing a 5-inning complete game shutout and holding the Hawks to just 2 Hits.

The game remained 0-0 through the first 3 innings, and the Devils broke the game open in the later innings, putting up 6 Runs in the 4th and 4 Runs in the 5th to secure another region victory.

Columbus currently sits at 2nd place in the AAAA Region 2 standings. Next week they play the 1st Place LaGrange Grangers, traveling to LaGrange on Tuesday and hosting them Friday at 5:30 at Randy Jordan Field.
