Girls' Soccer Beats Starr's Mill 4-2

Laney Williams

On the night of Friday March 16th, 2023, our very own Columbus Blue Devils Women's Varsity Soccer Team beat Starr's Mill at Odis Spencer with a final score of 4-2. Previously last season, the Blue Devils ended the game with a tie, making this year's game a chance for redemption.

“We came into this game wanting revenge for what happened last year … we were expecting a hard fought game, and we gave it everything we had to come out on top,” London Horiuchi (12).

Starting off strong, Brooklyn Adams (10) scored on the opposing team within the first fifteen minutes of the game. This helped the team continue on strong throughout the match.

“One of my favorite moments in the game was the first goal,” Leah Woods (10).

Additionally, Kennedy Miller (10) and as well as Horiuchi (12), also came in the game strong and scored, helping the team win the game.

For the team, this was one of their first games with all their previously injured players back on the field. This helped them play strong throughout the match.

“Carlie Almond (12) and I had great teamwork throughout the whole game. She assisted both of my goals in this game,” Horiuchi (12).

“One of my favorite highlights was defense winning back possession,” Woods (10).

However, for some, one of the most mentally challenging moments was during the second half. Within the last forty minutes of the game, Kennedy Miller (10) scored on the opposing team, bringing the score up to 4-1. This was the score that the team was at least year at this point in the game, but they ended the match with a tie.

The Women’s Varsity Soccer team displayed their developing talents this past match on the defensive side as well as on the offensive side. “Our team has developed so much this season and this game was a great example of our hard work paying off,” Horiuchi (12).
